Procedures for Starting a New Student Organization

All student organizations must be approved for University recognition. Any student wishing to form an organization other than a social fraternity or sorority should complete the checklist below.


New Student Organization Checklist:

  • Secure an advisor. An advisor may be a member of the full-time faculty or staff member, chaplain/clergy and/or an officer in an ROTC unit.
  • Complete online application for recognition under organizations after signing into Org Sync. The application will require completion of the following actions:
    • Submit organization constitution/by-laws
    • The Constitution of an organization contains the fundamental principles, which govern its operation.
    • The Bylaws establish the specific rules for group function.
  • Ensure that the president of the organization and advisor can attend the mandatory Risk Management Training.
  • Ensure that one representative of the organization can attend the Student Organization Orientation.
